Sunday was pretty darn wonderful. My parents were in the area picking up a snow blower attachment for their John Deere tractor so they stopped by on their way home to check out our apartment and go out to lunch. It was really nice to see my parents in NJ versus seeing them in CT. It was a good change of pace. We ended up trying to take the rents to our favorite local Irish pub, but they weren’t open yet, so we headed over to The Office, a local bar/restaurant chain. The food was decent but nothing to write home about. The conversation was the highlight of lunch as my parents are always good for a laugh, especially my dad.
We also ended up contacting our landlord on Sunday and got the heat fixed! Hooray! Something about how the flue wasn’t opening so the boiler wasn’t turning on. Yikes! Luckily it’s fixed and we’re back to having more heat than we really need but we’re not about to complain.
The rest of Sunday was pretty uneventful. We had already cleaned the apartment a bit in preparation for my parents stopping by and it was ridiculously windy and cold out so we didn’t feel the need to venture out into the world so much. We did however brave the wind and crowds and made a trip to our local Trader Joe’s since we were almost out of coconut oil. Three jars of coconut oil later, I think I’ve managed to stock up on it for a while. I also ended up walking out of there with a bunch of bags of nuts. Walnuts, almonds, cashews and macadamia! They were so much cheaper than our regular food store! I know Trader Joe’s is known for lower prices but I just haven’t had the chance to really explore what they have due to our store always being ridiculous crowded. One random Tuesday night I’ll have to go and explore Trader Joe’s hopefully without the crowds. After Trader Joe’s we hit up our usual grocery store and finished picking up everything we needed for the week. After food shopping the rest of the day consisted of just relaxing, making some dinner and watching a movie. Nothing too exciting.
Day 43: Sunday Feb 17, 2013:
Lunch: Chicken Bacon Ranch Avocado panini with sweet potato fries
Dinner: Sweet potato nachos with chicken, bacon, guacamole and lettuce
Yeah we rocked some more sweet potato nachos!
Monday was well, a standard Monday. Wake up, work, eat and sleep. Repeat. One highlight of Monday? Kevin’s Thai spiced meatballs! Quite delicious and they made for good leftovers the next day for lunch.
